Kingston, NY \u2013 Senate House State Historic Site is announcing its Voices of Revolution: 250th Anniversary Lecture Series. In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, attendees can dive a bit deeper into this fascinating period in American History, with talks from authors, scholars, and more. Each will offer their unique perspectives on the American Revolution and the time period surrounding it. All talks will be held on their respective dates at 6:30pm in the site\u2019s Museum Building.<\/p>\n

On July 24th, author and journalist Debra Bruno will deliver her talk New York\u2019s Hidden Histories: What I Learned \u00a0About My Dutch American Family\u2019s History As Enslavers, exploring New York\u2019s 200-year history of slavery through her own family\u2019s past. Her book, Hudson Valley Reckoning, will be available for purchase at the event.<\/p>\n

On August 28th, presidential historian, senior fellow at New America, inaugural American history columnist at the New York Times Book Review, and New York Times bestselling author Alexis Coe will speak about her hit book You Never Forget Your First: A Biography of George Washington which offers her unique perspective on the founding father.<\/p>\n

On September 25th, Robert Parkinson, author and Professor of History at Binghamton University, will deliver his talk Making Thirteen Clocks Strike as One: Race, Fear and the American Founding, based on his landmark book Thirteen Clocks, exploring how issues of race acted as a uniting factor in the lead up to the American Revolution.<\/p>\n

On October 30th, Joseph Diamond, Associate Professor of Anthropology at SUNY New Paltz, will present on his book Archaeology of Kingston, New York, highlighting his findings during numerous archeological projects in the city of Kingston, including his work at the Pine Street African Burial Ground, Senate House, and more.<\/p>\n

All talks are free and open to the public, with each evening\u2019s program lasting roughly one hour, including a brief question and answer period.<\/p>\n

Senate House was the 18th century home of the Van Gaasbeek family and meeting place of the first New York State Senate in 1777. The site includes historic house tours, grounds, and museum building access with multiple exhibits, including two brand new installations, Revolution Comes to Kingston focusing on the American Revolution through the lens of Kingston and its inhabitants and Vanderlyn the Artist, showcasing the work and legacy of world-renowned 19th century neoclassical artist and Kingston native John Vanderlyn.<\/p>\n
