{"id":29569,"date":"2025-11-05T15:07:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T15:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/29569\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T15:07:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T15:07:09","slug":"brooklyn-yeshiva-spray-painted-with-swastikas-by-hate-filled-vandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/29569\/","title":{"rendered":"Brooklyn yeshiva spray-painted with swastikas by hate-filled vandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Brooklyn yeshiva was spray-painted with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/04\/10\/vandal-trashes-cybertruck-brooklyn-yeshiva-leaves-brick-swastika\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">swastikas<\/a> early Wednesday, the Daily News has learned.<\/p>\n<p>A security guard at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magendavidyeshivah.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Magen David Yeshiva<\/a>\u00a0in Gravesend called 911 about 6:30 a.m. after finding two swastikas in red paint on a pillar and window, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Two \u201chalf swastikas\u201d or \u201cZs\u201d were also found painted on the yeshiva, which includes an Orthodox Jewish elementary school, on McDonald Ave. near Avenue T, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>The half swastikas, sometimes referred to as \u201czwastikas\u201d are used by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebarentsobserver.com\/security\/the-naziinspired-symbol-used-by-russia-in-war-against-ukraine-finds-way-to-downtown-murmansk\/161297\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Russian nationalists<\/a> who support the invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Police believe the hate symbols were drawn on the building sometime after 12:30 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>School administrators sent an email to parents Wednesday morning informing them of the hateful vandalism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenior officers from the NYPD and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2016\/06\/27\/shomrim-are-quasi-police-services-for-orthodox-jewish-communities\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shomrim are actively investigating<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0 Principal Rabbi Ezra Cohen-Saban wrote. \u201cWe have added extra security on site and will continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students and staff, which remains our top priority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.
