On my way home late Sunday morning I was surprised to see a police car blocking the entrance to Montague Street from Hicks. When I reached the corner I saw why. A huge tractor-trailer rig had gotten stuck trying to turn from Montague onto Pierrepont Place. Approaching home I took the photo above. This is something I\u2019d seen many times before, but this time it seemed more problematic than usual, probably because the rig had an unusually long trailer. As told by\u00a0Mary Frost in the Eagle<\/a>, it took one and one half hours \u201cand counting\u201d to dislodge it, quoting Timmy Daniels, whose dramatic photos accompany her story. The story notes that \u201caccording to the New York City Department of Transportation 53-foot semi-trailers are not allowed to make pick ups or deliveries in any borough of New York City.\u201d It also quotes Lara Birnback, Executive Director of the\u00a0Brooklyn Heights Association<\/a>, as noting that trucks with oversize trailers are \u201ctotally illegal\u201d on our streets and that, \u201c[t]he problem is, there\u2019s no enforcement.\u201d<\/p>\n
