On July 10, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 in the Town of Southeast for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.<\/p>\n
The operator was identified as Bienvenido R. Nunez, Jr., 48, of Edison, New Jersey, and the vehicle’s passenger, a 36-year-old female, were both determined not to possess a valid driver’s license. During an inventory conducted prior to the vehicle being impounded, Troopers located a loaded privately made .40-caliber handgun inside the vehicle. Nunez admitted ownership of the handgun.<\/p>\n
Nunez was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C felony, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a Class E felony.<\/p>\n
Nunez was arraigned in the Town of Kent Court and remanded without bail to Putnam County Correctional Facility.
