Smoke from Canadian wildfires is once again impacting New York state, the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic this week.

Plumes of smoke are passing overhead giving upstate skies an orange hue and filtering our sunshine.

Today and tomorrow, some of the fine particles in the air will trickle down closer to the surface reducing air quality at times.

Young children, the elderly and people with pre-existing health conditions are most vulnerable to our reduced air quality.

It is advised that people limit time outside as much as possible.

The haziness became noticeable, at times, on Monday but has since worsened today.

Hi-res computer models have Thursday’s smokiness and air quality possibly being worse than today’s.

There are signs that, at least, some smoke may linger into Friday as well.

The smoke is coming from wildfires in Ontario, Canada, part of dozens of active wildfires currently burning across the country.

With a northwest wind, these plumes of smoke make there way through the Great Lakes region, settling into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

As long as we have a similar wind profile, the smokiness will remain an issue.

It appears the wind direction is set to change this weekend, coming more out of the south. That is when we should see a noticeable improvement to our sky conditions and air quality.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is once again impacting New York state, the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic this week.
