Strong weekend storms are expected to bring a variety of impacts to the East Coast, including thunderstorms, hail, gusty wind and possibly even a few tornadoes, causing a sense of relief from the recent heat and smoky conditions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Warm and muggy temperatures are once again plaguing portions of the East Coast, but thick Canadian\u00a0wildfire\u00a0smoke<\/a> could throw a wrench into exactly how hot it gets.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, this warm, smoky pattern will break as storms move in this weekend.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0heat dome\u00a0parked across the East Coast<\/a> will still keep temperatures hot and\u00a0humidity\u00a0levels high through Friday. But the massive wildfire smoke remains a wildcard for daily temperatures.<\/p>\n

The thick layer of smoke acts like a filter<\/a>, scattering and reflecting incoming sunlight before it can reach and heat the ground, according to the\u00a0FOX Forecast Center.<\/p>\n

As we head into the weekend, a slow-moving cold front will sweep through the East Coast.<\/p>\n

This incoming front will trigger widespread, heavy showers and\u00a0thunderstorms, beginning Friday in the\u00a0Ohio\u00a0Valley<\/a> and continuing through Sunday across portions of the\u00a0Mid-Atlantic.<\/p>\n

While these storms will carry a risk of damaging\u00a0winds, downpours and frequent\u00a0lightning, the greatest concern will be Saturday. <\/p>\n

A Level 2 out of 5\u00a0severe storm\u00a0threat extends throughout most of the\u00a0Northeast\u00a0and southeastern\u00a0Great Lakes.<\/p>\n

An intense line of storms will develop across western parts of the\u00a0Northeast\u00a0late evening on Saturday and move eastward through the overnight hours, the FOX Forecast Center said.<\/p>\n

Large, damaging\u00a0hail\u00a0will be the primary threat<\/a> early on. However, once the storms transition into a line, damaging wind gusts will become the main hazard. A few tornadoes are also possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The current heat wave and incoming cold front will cause widespread storms. FOX Weather<\/p>\n

As the cold front continues its eastward progress farther south, severe storms will also be likely across Western\u00a0Virginia\u00a0and\u00a0North Carolina, where there is a Level 2 out of 5 severe storm threat on Sunday.<\/p>\n

In addition to the storm threat, a flash flooding threat stretches<\/a> across the Ohio Valley on Friday. <\/p>\n

On Saturday, the flood threat includes a large portion of the Northeast, where a level 2 flood threat is in effect for New York City, parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Sunday, a level 1 flash flood threat is in place for parts of Virginia and North Carolina.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For\u00a0New York City, rainy weekends have become all too familiar this\u00a0summer. <\/p>\n
