<\/p>\nBROOKLYN, NY \u2013 The Great Solemn Vespers of St. Marina were celebrated with splendor on July 16, at St. Nicholas-St. Marina Church in Brooklyn, which was packed with the faithful.<\/p>\n
The vespers were presided over by the Abbot of the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou, Archimandrite Meletios Bougas, with St. Nicholas and St. Marina community\u2019s presiding priest Fr. Gerasimos Maroulas, and clergy of the Sacred Monastery.<\/p>\n
After the litany, the Abbot, in his sermon, referred to the life of St. Marina, emphasizing how much she renounced for the love of Christ.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith her martyrdom, she watered the tree of the Church with her blood and received the crown of eternal glory,\u201d he said. \u201cShe renounced riches, glory and earthly pleasures to remain devoted to Christ, showing patience and bravery during the terrible tortures until her beheading.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, we devoutly celebrate and honor the memory of the protector of children, especially those of them who are sick and emaciated or have special needs,\u201d Fr. Bougas said. \u201cHer memory is celebrated and honored in Brooklyn due to the settlement here of Greeks from the village of Diplatano in Trichonida, who, along with all their belongings, brought their love for St. Marina. They dedicated her icon here in the church and after several years, at their request, it took the name Saint Nicholas-Saint Marina.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that the example of the saint will teach us, awaken us spiritually to review our relationship with God, with our faith within the Church, to become true Orthodox Christians,\u201d Fr. Bougas said.<\/p>\n
Fr. Gerasimos Maroulas expressed his warm thanks to the Abbot for his participation in the feast of St. Marina, as well as to the faithful who came with reverence to honor the Saint.<\/p>\n
Parish Council members George Aidiniou, Fotis Gournelos, and Sakis Iordanou, wished the Greek community all the best, that St. Marina bestows upon them health, joy, and prosperity and that they have a good and restful summer.<\/p>\n
The members of the Philoptochos Society noted that after the end of Vespers and the Divine Liturgy on the day of the feast, they offered sweets, refreshments, and coffee to the faithful in the community hall.<\/p>\n
