WASHINGTON \u2014\u00a0Maverick Sen. John Fetterman<\/a> laced into Mayor Zohran Mamdani, trashing him as a \u201cclown\u201d for trying to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> during his visit to the Big Apple.<\/p>\n

Hizzoner, who is deeply skeptical of prisons<\/a>, said that his team was exploring the legality of detaining Netanyahu should the Israeli prime minister come to the Big Apple for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) or another event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it\u2019s such a tough guy to say that kind of thing. He has no way to do that,\u201d Fetterman (D-Pa.) chided on Fox News\u2019 \u201cSunday Morning Futures.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mayor cited the International Criminal Court\u2019s (ICC) 2024 arrest warrant for Netanyahu over the war in Gaza. <\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, America\u2019s not even part of that corrupt court, and so he\u2019s just a clown to even say that. So he won\u2019t try that,\u201d Fetterman went on. \u201cAnd now, just sit down and focus on the problems that they have in New York. That\u2019s really not your purview.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Post contacted City Hall for comment. <\/p>\n

During his campaign, Mamdani indicated he would attempt to arrest Netanyahu if the Israeli leader set foot on New York City soil. In a recent exchange with the New York Times\u2019 \u201cThe Interview,\u201d Mamdani doubled down on that. <\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in The Hague,\u201d Mamdani told the podcast\u2019s host, Lulu Garcia-Navarro, referring to the ICC\u2019s headquarters.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court,\u201d Hizzoner went on. \u201cAnd what you will find is that is an opinion that is held by many, purely because of what his actions have wrought over these last many years.\u201d<\/p>\n

But when pressed, the mayor acknowledged that he may not have the legal authority to detain a world leader and committed to following the city\u2019s laws. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe won\u2019t be writing our own laws to that end,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

UNGA is set to convene in September.
