If you can make it through all of the financial hoops, the loftlike ceilings are stunning, and the common-area proportions are truly bonkers. (The views also are south- and east-facing, so you won’t be lacking for natural light.) The kitchen’s a windowed galley with a pass-through and breakfast bar, plus plenty of storage and Bosch stainless-steel appliances. The bathrooms have been updated with spalike marble, and the apartment comes with an in-unit Electrolux washer and dryer. There’s new plumbing and electric, too, so hopefully no surprises down the road. The maintenance fees are also pretty tame at $1,164 a month, and other listings in the building describe an amenity spread that includes a live-in super, a bike room, and a storage locker. You’re less than a ten-minute walk from the 1 or the A/C as well as Fort Washington Public House for happy hour Modelos.

60 Plaza St. E., Apt. 5M

A listing shot of a Prospect Heights one-bedroom with some nice built-in shelving in the living room.
Photo: Keller Williams NYC

Another generous layout in another prewar co-op, this time in a one-bedroom right off Grand Army Plaza. The entry leads into a grand foyer that could work as a home office and flows through one of the apartment’s many archways into an even grander living room with parquets and a pair of built-ins bookending the east-facing windows. The kitchen’s another windowed galley with decent storage and a pass-through into the living area. The bathroom comes with a soaking tub but also a separate shower stall, which is a fun bonus. The bedroom gets the same eastern-facing exposures as the rest of the apartment and an additional southern-facing window too. Also, there are four closets. The maintenance fees feel pretty steep — $1,840, plus a $69 monthly capital assessment right now — but there’s a full-time doorman, a live-in super, a porter, a landscaped garden, shared laundry, and a bike room and storage locker. The location is primo, too: You’re right by the 2/3 trains, the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket for your produce shopping, and No. 7 Restaurant for a very solid cheeseburger.

333 W. 56th St., Apt. 6J

A listing shot of a Hell’s Kitchen studio that shows its unusually spacious living area.
Photo: Douglas Elliman

This studio at Parc Vendome condos feels like it’s angling for a pied-à-terre buyer, which perhaps is your thing. The living area is impressively large with enough space for a proper dining setup and sofa, and the oversize windows face south for all-day glow. The sleeping alcove can fit a full bed, and there’s a dressing area next to one of the apartment’s two closets. The kitchen feels a little dated and tight, particularly on counter space, but a refresh could help there. The bathroom, on the other hand, is quite glamorous with its original prewar details, including a soaking tub and checkerboard tiling. At $2,035 for the common charges and taxes, plus a $104 capital assessment, the monthlies are up there, but they do include electricity, gas, heat, and water and get you access to a sprawling English garden and a pair of sundecks, on top of a 24-hour doorman and live-in super. You’re right down the block from Carnegie Hall to put your membership to use, and the 57th Street subway station is just a seven-minute walk away — also the Nordstrom NYC Flagship, which people sleep on but is fantastic, per my editor.

527 8th St., Apt. 3A

A listing shot of a Park Slope studio showing charming parquets that get great light from the south-facing windows.
Photo: Weichert Properties – NYC

The parquets and south-facing windows with views of leafy 8th Street are charming, as are the ceiling moldings of this studio. The kitchen is windowed and has been renovated with some simple Shaker-style cabinetry, while the bathroom feels pretty classic — and you should definitely keep the aquamarine tiling. This apartment is on the smaller side of the spectrum for studios we’ve seen lately (and there’s no dishwasher), but you are just a half-block walk to Prospect Park and the Seventh Avenue F/G station. The $638 monthly maintenance fees get you bike storage and in-building laundry, and there is a basement storage locker, although it sounds like that’ll cost extra. This one is cute and just right for someone out there.

Sign Up for the Curbed Newsletter

A daily mix of stories about cities, city life, and our always evolving neighborhoods and skylines.

Vox Media, LLC Terms and Privacy Notice

By submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice and to receive email correspondence from us.

See All

A listing shot of a Washington Heights three-bedroom with dramatic, loftlike ceilings.
