An 18-year-old woman is expected to recover after police say she was shot during an attempted robbery inside a subway station late Sunday night.<\/p>\n
Police say the shooting happened just before midnight on the downtown 2 train platform at the President Street station in Crown Heights.<\/p>\n
According to a police source, a man walked up to the woman and tried to steal her purse. The two struggled before, police say, the man pulled out a gun and fired one shot, hitting her in the chest.<\/p>\n
Police say the man ran off with the purse, but investigators later recovered it.<\/p>\n
The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital by police and is expected to be OK.<\/p>\n
Kecha Regis says she was on a train pulling into the station when she heard the gunshot.<\/p>\n
“I heard a gunshot, boom. Everybody ducked down… she was hurt, and people on the train were calling police,” Regis said.<\/p>\n
Regis says she was on her way to visit her brother, who lives nearby, when everything unfolded.<\/p>\n
“It was scary,” she told News 12.<\/p>\n
The gunman has not been arrested.<\/p>\n
A police source describes him as wearing baggy black clothing and a red baseball cap with white lettering when he ran from the station.<\/p>\n
