One person was arrested after setting off an incendiary device outside a federal building in Manhattan, FBI Director Kash Patel<\/a> said.<\/p>\n

The New York City Fire Department responded to a report of an outdoor rubbish fire outside a building that houses field offices of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation at 8:30 a.m. on July 20. One person with minor injuries was transported to a local hospital and two others declined to be hospitalized, according to the fire department. Patel said <\/a>on social media that “two minor injuries” had been reported.<\/p>\n

“This morning an individual deployed an incendiary device outside of 26 Federal Plaza,” the FBI said in a statement to USA TODAY. “The individual has been taken into custody and the FBI New York Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the incident.”<\/p>\n

The Joint Terrorism Task Force, first established in New York City in 1980<\/a>, “is a multi-law enforcement agency that includes NYPD detectives and FBI special agents who investigate terrorism in the New York City metropolitan area and around the world,” according to the New York City Police Department.<\/a><\/p>\n

Footage from the scene shared on social media <\/a>showed a plume of smoke rising while officers tackled someone to the ground and blocked off the area. Police urged <\/a>the public to avoid the area and expect “traffic delays, mass transit disruptions, road closures & emergency personnel.”<\/p>\n

The NYPD confirmed it also responded to the incident, but deferred further questions to the FBI.<\/p>\n
