Kathy Hochul in September 2021, uses cameras to catch drivers speeding in work zones.<\/p>\n<p>BACKGROUND: <a href=\"https:\/\/13wham.com\/news\/local\/new-york-officials-promote-work-zone-awareness-week-deploy-speed-cameras-for-safety\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York officials promote Work Zone Awareness Week, deploy speed cameras for safety<\/a><\/p>\n<p>NYSDOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez visited the Rochester area Monday to announce the program is no longer limited to controlled-access highways, and cameras can now be used on almost any roadway across the state. That includes the four-lane divided-highway portion of Browncroft Boulevard in Brighton and Penfield, where Dominguez made the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a really big deal that will mean safer roads for absolutely everyone across our state, but most especially for our dedicated highway workers and our contractors,&#8221; Dominguez said.<\/p>\n<p>The DOT reported 366 crashes in work zones on state-owned in 2025, with 58 injuries and two deaths.
