Police said a hateful vandal scrawled swastikas at the Magen David Yeshiva in Brooklyn early Wednesday morning. X\/Rep. Nicole Malliotakis<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all, it\u2019s hate graffiti,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t care if it was on a mailbox or on a light pole \u2013 we would look into that, too. But here you have a predominantly Jewish neighborhood, a Jewish school with a massive attendance. This is one of the largest schools in the community and it\u2019s very traumatic for the entire community.\u201d<\/p>\n
The hateful act came just hours after Mamdani, a Muslim and social Democrat, comfortably beat former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the mayoral race \u2014 sparking concern among some New Yorkers who are wary of the mayor-elect\u2019s anti-Israeli rhetoric. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not a coincidence that this happened hours after Mamdani won the election,\u201d one yeshiva dad said. \u201cAnyone who claims that it is is lying to themselves or having delusions. This was a statement that with the new boss in charge, we finally get to show our true colors.\u201d<\/p>\n
He called it a sign of \u201cMamdani\u2019s New York.\u201d<\/p>\n
Surveillance camera footage shows a single vandal on a bike scrawling the swastikas at the yeshiva on Wednesday. DCPI<\/p>\n
Swastikas on the yeshiva windows were cleaned off and those on the wall were covered with Israeli flags. X\/Rep. Nicole Malliotakis<\/p>\n
Moskiwitz said the patrol received a call about the graffiti about a half-hour after the incident, with two swastikas painted on the main building and two on the window of an adjoining building.<\/p>\n
He said they then notified the NYPD.<\/p>\n
The school washed the swastikas off the windows and taped Israeli flags over the ones on the wall.<\/p>\n
Within hours, Empire State pols condemned the hate crime and blamed the new political climate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is reprehensible and unacceptable and should serve as a wakeup call that Mamdani is ushering in the pro-terrorist antisemitic takeover of NYC, aided and abetted by the Worst Governor in America Kathy Hochul,\u201d US Rep. Elise Stefanik, chair of the House Republican Leadership.<\/p>\n
\u201cBoth Mamdani and Hochul are silent and have failed to condemn,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Hochul and Mamdani did ultimately comment on the vandalism, with the mayor-elect chiming in on X.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a disgusting and heartbreaking act of antisemitism, and it has not place in our beautiful city,\u201d he wrote. \u201cAs mayor, I will always stand steadfast with our Jewish neighbors to root the scourge of antisemitism out of our city.\u201d<\/p>\n
