{"id":301252,"date":"2026-07-20T23:32:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T23:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/301252\/"},"modified":"2026-07-20T23:32:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T23:32:17","slug":"spain-beats-argentina-as-brooklyn-packs-world-cup-watch-parties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/301252\/","title":{"rendered":"Spain beats Argentina as Brooklyn packs World Cup watch parties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DUMBO\/BROOKLYN HEIGHTS \u2014 The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, and everything in between were on display Sunday at packed World Cup viewing sites in Brooklyn, as Spain defeated Argentina in the final match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s free fan zones, plus video screens in bars, parks, libraries and Open Streets, brought the \u201cbeautiful game\u201d to the public for a shared experience that many feel was one of the highlights of the summer. Despite the rivalry on the field, fans citywide celebrated in good-natured camaraderie.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-403629\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/World-Cup-final-02-screen-Mary-Frost-600x450.jpeg\" alt=\"A capacity crowd watched Sunday\u2019s FIFA World Cup final on a giant screen at the adidas Fan Zone in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Photo: Mary Frost\/Brooklyn Eagle<\/p>\n<p>Even Mother Nature helped out on Sunday, as hazardous smoke from Canadian fires disappeared and skies were sunny. The adidas-sponsored Fan Zone in Brooklyn Bridge Park was flooded during Saturday\u2019s thunderstorms and the enormous screen damaged. Due to these issues, they were unable to show the third-place match between England and France \u2014 but the entire site was back in action for the World Cup final.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-403607\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/World-Cup-final-17-sign-Mary-Frost-600x450.jpeg\" alt=\"Photo: Mary Frost\/Brooklyn Eagle\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"  \/>The entrance to the adidas Fan Zone. Photo: Mary Frost\/Brooklyn Eagle<\/p>\n<p>The Brooklyn Eagle caught the action and high emotions at the enormous adidas site and also the local fan zone on a car-free Montague Street.
