Why It Matters\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mamdani became the first Muslim person to be elected mayor of New York City\u00a0after being heavily criticized for his stance toward Israel. Mamdani refused to condemn the phrase \u201cglobalize the intifada,\u201d\u00a0which has been used as both a rallying cry for Palestinian rights and a call for violence against Israelis.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mamdani has also been criticized for describing himself as a Democratic Socialist and pushing for government\u00a0run\u00a0grocery stores and free\u00a0buses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

What to Know\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

King, a vocal critic of Trump\u00a0and Republicans,\u00a0posted on X, formerly Twitter,\u00a0that\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0\u201camusing\u201d that people who elected Trump, a \u201cright-wing extremist,\u201d are upset about Mamdani.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s\u00a0amusing, after electing a right-wing extremist as President, to watch all the pearl-clutching about Zohran Mamdani,\u201d King posted. \u201cMusk moans that\u00a0\u2018Western civilization is doomed.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Wednesday morning, Musk posted on X that Western Civilization is \u201cdoomed\u201d unless the \u201ccore weakness of suicidal empathy is recognized and actions are taken that are hard, but necessary for survival.\u201d\u00a0Musk previously encouraged people to vote for former Governor Andrew Cuomo because voting for Republican Curtis Sliwa was\u00a0essentially a\u00a0vote for Mamdani.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Musk did compliment Mamdani for his charisma, telling podcaster Joe Rogan that the then-mayoral candidate\u00a0could \u201clight up a stage.\u201d However, Musk also called him a \u201cswindler\u201d\u00a0and his policies would create a \u201csignificant decline\u201d in living standards.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump also encouraged voters to cast their ballot for Cuomo\u00a0in an effort to\u00a0keep Mamdani from winning.\u00a0After Tuesday\u2019s elections<\/a>, Trump blamed the shutdown and his not being on the ballot for why Republicans lost.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Democrats saw wins across the country, flipping governorships in Virginia and New Jersey and sweeping judicial races in Pennsylvania. The results could signal a shift in the country’s political direction, acting as a litmus test ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Florida Republican Congressman Randy Fine, in a post on X:\u00a0\u201cLegal immigrants who hate America elected a Communist Muslim Jihadist. New York City has fallen. America is next if we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0stop it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

New York City Council member Inna\u00a0Vernikov, born in Soviet Ukraine and a Democrat turned Republican, wrote on X:\u00a0“Welcome to the USSR.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
