UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) \u2014 A fifth person has died in connection with the Legionnaires’ outbreak on the Upper East Side, health officials reported on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n
Officials also confirmed that five Legionella bacteria have been discovered in 34 cooling towers at 33 buildings through culture tests.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Discover more local reporting on our homepage\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n The cooling towers that have tested positive have been fully cleaned and completed remediation.<\/p>\n “We have\u00a0responded rapidly and aggressively to this\u00a0Legionnaires’ cluster on the Upper East Side.\u00a0With\u00a0two confirmed cases, we launched our investigation and directed every building with\u00a0an initial\u00a0positive test result to\u00a0immediately\u00a0clean and disinfect its cooling tower. These actions have saved lives,” said\u00a0NYC Health Commissioner Dr. Alister F.
