\u201cWhen I retire, I\u2019m going to retire to Brooklyn<\/a>,\u201d Marilyn Monroe had famously declared in a 1955 radio interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s my favourite place in the world, so far, that I\u2019ve seen,\u201d she continued, \u201cI haven\u2019t travelled much, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll find anything to replace Brooklyn\u201d. In another interview, she explained her love for the borough further, noting, \u201cI just like walking around. I think the view is better from Brooklyn, you can look back over and see Manhattan. That\u2019s the best view, but it isn\u2019t only the view. It\u2019s the people, and the streets\u2026and the atmosphere, I just like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whether you hear Brooklyn and think of certain foods<\/a> or films, or the infiltration of so-called hipsters who have taken over much of the borough in more recent years, there\u2019s certainly a charm that may be hard to put into words, but it persists. <\/p>\n
