Police in New York City<\/a> are searching for a masked gunman who allegedly shot a 21-year-old cab driver in the face during an overnight armed robbery in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

According<\/a> to a New York Police Department (NYPD) statement obtained by Fox 5 New York, the incident happened around 4 a.m. Saturday when the suspect targeted a TLC-licensed livery cab, a vehicle typically used for pre-arranged rides rather than street hails.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the suspect entered the vehicle and allegedly threatened the driver, demanding money and the keys to the cab.<\/p>\n

The suspect then opened fire as the driver attempted to exit the vehicle, striking him in the face.<\/p>\n

“The victim proceeded to exit the vehicle when the unidentified individual discharged a firearm<\/a> striking the 21-year-old male victim in the face,” police said.<\/p>\n

The suspect fled the scene on foot after stealing “an unknown amount of currency,” police said.<\/p>\n

Authorities noted that the suspect did not take anything else from the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Police received reports of the incident at approximately 4:15 a.m.<\/p>\n

Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the victim to a local hospital in stable condition. The NYPD also described the shooting as non-fatal.<\/p>\n

Authorities are asking for the public\u2019s help identifying the suspect<\/a>, who was last seen wearing blue shorts, a black sweatshirt, a black surgical mask and black shoes while carrying a black backpack.<\/p>\n
