Black Country, New Road are one of the post-rock acts who are pushing the envelope on musicianship and what it means to be a band at its core. The band are a collective of incredibly talented musicians from the UK who\u2019s understanding of the language of music shows no bounds on the stage. Each one of the members does not overpower the other, they all take up space on the stage that allows for the music to really work its magic. Playing from their latest record,\u00a0Forever, Howlong, the band don\u2019t take themselves so seriously are are just enjoying playing their songs to an amazing audience.<\/p>\n

Opening for Black Country, New Road were up and comers Sharp Pins. Their aesthetic is clearly being drawn from the 1960\u2019s\/1970\u2019s as the band looks like they\u2019ve been torn straight out of a copy of Rolling Stone from that time period. Their music matches their aesthetic as well, pulling influences from bands like The Kinks and The Yardbirds, their garage-rock sound was an excellent opener for the evening. Next were indie darlings, Horsegirl. The Chicago-based trio brought their refreshing sound to Summerstage. Their sound is reminiscent of the 90\u2019s alt scene, especially taking pages out of Mazzy Star and Fiona Apple\u2019s book. Their set felt like the soundtrack belonging to a decked out room of horse paraphernalia, glitter glue, posters of their favorite artists. It was a really great mid-point of the night.<\/p>\n

After openers was the main event: Black Country, New Road. The band took over the stage like an orchestra. With many different types of instruments, at points outnumbering the amount of band members. With each track, the band takes turns taking center stage. Whether its on lead vocals, strings, brass, or percussion, the band continues to push the envelope on the complexity of the instruments themselves without overcomplicating the composition of the songs. It was a lovely set among the beautiful backdrop of NYC\u2019s Central Park.<\/p>\n
