A Brooklyn Park man is in custody after police said he broke into homes and sexually assaulted two women.<\/p>\n
Police arrested 25-year-old Darius Ahmadd Olson-Baker on Thursday. Police said he allegedly broke into two Brooklyn Park homes over the last week and sexually assaulted two women.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo say that it\u2019s alarming, that\u2019s exactly accurate; it is alarming,\u201d said Mark Bruley, Brooklyn Park Police Chief.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, Olson-Baker was released from prison after being sentenced in 2023 to 60 months on a firearm charge. The Hennepin County Attorney\u2019s Office confirmed he served the first two-thirds of his sentence in prison and the final third was to be on supervised release.<\/p>\n
Brooklyn Park police said a lead from one of their own led them to Olson-Baker.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was aware of an individual that Brooklyn Park Police Department has had contact with in the past who exhibited similar behavior many years ago of breaking into the homes of victims,\u201d Chief Bruley said.<\/p>\n
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS asked police whether Olson-Baker was ever arrested for these specific crimes. Police told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS to submit a data request because there are several reports.<\/p>\n
How does supervised release work?<\/p>\n
\u201cMinnesota\u2019s long-standing practice of the 2\/3rds in prison, 1\/3rd on release is not abnormal,\u201d said Rachel Moran, professor with the University of St. Thomas School of Law. \u201cBasically it\u2019s a situation where you\u2019re released into the community, but it\u2019s under certain restrictions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Moran said those restrictions vary. She said for a firearm case, a person can generally go where they want.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s probably check-in points, so maybe they need to be in contact with their supervised released officer,\u201d said Moran.<\/p>\n
Court documents say Olson-Baker\u00a0had a \u201csignificant juvenile history of committing burglaries in Brooklyn Park\u201d.<\/p>\n
He is currently in custody and is facing ten felony charges in connection with his alleged actions in Brooklyn Park. <\/p>\n
