A family-owned New Rochelle restaurant is dealing with a major financial loss after thieves broke in and stole thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n
The burglary happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday at Modern Restaurant & Lounge on Huguenot Street.<\/p>\n
Security video shows two suspects breaking through the restaurant’s front doors. The thieves appear to use a hammer before kicking in part of the entrance to gain access.<\/p>\n
The restaurant’s general manager says the suspects went directly to the office where a safe was kept.<\/p>\n
“It’s unsettling knowing that they knew exactly where to go and exactly what to do,” says general manager Sebastian Aliberti, whose family started the restaurant.<\/p>\n
According to the owners, the thieves broke into the safe and made off with more than $30,000.<\/p>\n
“You feel violated. Your bubble that you’re supposed to feel protected in and comfortable gets taken away from you,” Aliberti tells News 12.<\/p>\n
Aliberti says the burglary happened in just six minutes.<\/p>\n
New Rochelle police say the case remains under active investigation.<\/p>\n
This is the second recent burglary at a family-owned business in Westchester County.<\/p>\n
