STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease.<\/p>\n

Weeks after the Advance\/SILive.com reported on an unsanctioned stop sign on the borough\u2019s East Shore<\/a>, an official sign has been installed at the same intersection.<\/p>\n

Recently, the Department of Transportation installed a new all-way stop at Robin Road and Jackson Avenue in South Beach.<\/p>\n

The installation happened near the end of October, and according to the agency, the sign was added based on feedback from the neighborhood. <\/p>\n

\u201cAfter hearing feedback from residents in the area, NYC DOT studied this location and found that a vast majority of drivers traveled through this intersection well above the posted speed limit, qualifying it for an all-way stop,\u201d said agency spokesperson Will Livingston.<\/p>\n

Road marking for the stop sign will be painted in the next few weeks, he added.<\/p>\n

Drivers may need time to adjust to the change, however. During a recent visit to the area, an Advance\/SILive.com reporter observed the intersection for approximately 15 minutes and counted 11 drivers out of 18 ignoring the new sign.<\/p>\n

In September, the DOT said it would take down an unofficial stop sign at the same intersection.<\/p>\n

The sign, which was located at the intersection of two narrow, one-way streets, faced traffic coming from Ocean Avenue.<\/p>\n

Unlike others nearby, the suspect stop sign was bolted to a utility pole, and not its own vertical support.<\/p>\n

Upon closer inspection, the stop sign was also off in color, a brighter shade of red than official New York City signs.<\/p>\n

It also lacked any markings from the Department of Transportation, which feature prominently on authorized signs.<\/p>\n

The only markings on the unofficial sign read \u201cT&R #BST30,\u2033 which when searched online led to stop signs listed for sale starting at $27.<\/p>\n

When asked about the sign, one nearby homeowner said that while he isn\u2019t sure who put the sign up, or when, it has helped with the street\u2019s speeding issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the way it is sometimes, but the stop sign is good,\u201d said Igor Manuylov of South Beach, regarding the unsanctioned sign.<\/p>\n

While on the scene, an Advance\/SILive.com reporter noted several cars driving at a high rate of speed down narrow Robin Road.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s definitely a speeding problem here, the people aren\u2019t driving they\u2019re flying. The stop sign is good [for the speeding issue], it\u2019s better than nothing,\u201d Manuylov continued.<\/p>\n
