On July 22, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., New York State Police responded to the New York State Office of Mental Health’s Secure Treatment and Rehabilitation Center- Oakview in the town of Marcy for a report of an armed, barricaded subject.<\/p>\n
The investigation determined that a male resident at the facility assaulted a staff member with a jagged piece of plastic from a broken fluorescent light cover, causing a non-life-threatening laceration to their leg. The victim required treatment at a local urgent care.<\/p>\n
Following the assault, the resident barricaded himself inside a secure wing of the facility while still armed with the jagged piece of plastic. Facility staff and residents were safely evacuated from the area. Members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), Uniform Force, Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU), and Special Operations Response Team (SORT) responded to the scene. After several hours, SORT members safely took the resident into custody without further incident.<\/p>\n
Following medical clearance, the resident was processed by State Police and transported to the Oneida County Jail to await CAP Court arraignment.<\/p>\n

\u2022 \u00a0 \u00a0Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2022 \u00a0 \u00a0Menacing in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)<\/p>\n
State Police are withholding the suspect’s name due to his mental health status.
