Since then, Brito said the community response has only continued to grow.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">When asked how the effort has changed over the past month, Brito said simply, \u201cIt grew super fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Brito said thousands of New Yorkers have volunteered since the donation drive began, helping collect at least 250 pallets and six truckloads of donations.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">For Brito, the mission is deeply personal.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">His family was in Venezuela when the earthquake struck.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cThank God, my family is good,\u201d Brito said. \u201cI\u2019m glad my own family isn\u2019t directly affected, but everyone as Venezuelans are worried.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Brito said his concern extends beyond his own family.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cWe\u2019re Venezuelan we feel our country like that and our heart is still there in Venezuela&#8230; these are our people. They need help and we want to help them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The relief effort has also expanded beyond his Key Food store in Castle Hill.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Brito&#8217;s home has become a donation hub, where wheelchairs, crutches, diapers, food and other supplies are sorted and assembled before being shipped to Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cI have wheelchairs&#8230; and I had a lot of crutches&#8230; we have some food here and diapers,\u201d Brito said.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Despite the growing support, Brito said the tragedy continues to weigh heavily on him.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cIt makes me feel super sad, of course,\u201d he said. \u201cIt&#8217;s a tragedy. I feel super worried about my own people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">As the donation drive continues, Brito said he remains committed to helping those affected by the earthquake.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cWe\u2019re doing our best,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">He also shared a message for people in Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cWe are with you&#8230; We are closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela and everything happening there.
