{"id":305708,"date":"2026-07-25T23:54:47","date_gmt":"2026-07-25T23:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/305708\/"},"modified":"2026-07-25T23:54:47","modified_gmt":"2026-07-25T23:54:47","slug":"popular-cold-brew-recalled-over-concerns-of-dangerous-toxin-that-could-be-fatal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/305708\/","title":{"rendered":"Popular cold brew recalled over concerns of dangerous toxin that could be fatal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A\u00a0New York-based <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/20\/health\/how-much-coffee-a-day-is-safe-and-linked-to-heart-benefits\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">coffee<\/a> company is recalling some of its cold brew drinks sold in New York and New Jersey because of a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/25\/health\/possible-source-of-botulism-outbreak-from-contaminated-infant-formula-discovered\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">risk of botulism<\/a>, according to the US Food and Drug Administration.<\/p>\n<p>The Brooklyn Roasting Company issued\u00a0the recall\u00a0this month for 2.5-gallon bags of pasteurized cold brew concentrate after finding that room temperature storage could lead to the growth of Clostridium botulinum toxin formation.<\/p>\n<p>The affected products were distributed between April 1 and June 20, and they include best-by dates between June 3 and Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/25\/health\/possible-source-of-botulism-outbreak-from-contaminated-infant-formula-discovered\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Botulism is a\u00a0rare condition<\/a>\u00a0caused by a toxin that attacks the body\u2019s nerves, which can be fatal.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of\u00a0foodborne botulism\u00a0usually start 12 to 36 hours later and include trouble swallowing, dry mouth, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, upset stomach, trouble breathing and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/03\/health\/paralyzed-man-walks-again-after-experimental-drug-trial-triggers-remarkable-recovery\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">paralysis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone experiencing botulism symptoms is urged to go to the emergency room immediately.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40090754\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/refreshing-cold-foam-cold-brew-135496551.jpg\" alt=\"Refreshing cold foam cold brew coffee in a glass, with coffee beans scattered around.\" class=\"wp-image-40090754\"  \/>A\u00a0New York-based coffee company is recalling some of its cold brew drinks sold in New York and New Jersey because of a risk of botulism, according to the US Food and Drug Administration.
