But don\u2019t worry, New York\u2014we\u2019re all in this together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another round of rain and thunderstorms is moving into the NYC area this week, bringing the potential for heavy downpours, flash flooding, and a few soggy commutes before sunshine finally makes its return. If you\u2019ve been enjoying the recent break from relentless heat waves, smoky skies, and severe storms, you might want to keep that umbrella within arm\u2019s reach just a little longer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the National Weather Service (NWS), spotty showers and isolated afternoon thunderstorms begin moving in on Monday. However, the most significant impact will roll through starting Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The slow-moving low-pressure system will cause rain to linger across the five boroughs, making Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes particularly wet and unpredictable.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"218\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-27-at-10.41.10-AM-1024x218.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-385268\"  \/>Source \/ NWS NY<\/p>\n<p>How Much Rain Is Expected and Is There a Flood Risk?<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forecasters expect 2 to 3 inches of widespread rainfall across the NYC metro area, but localized amounts could spike much higher during intense localized downpours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While a formal flood watch hasn\u2019t been issued, the combination of tropical moisture and slow storm movement creates a real risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas, subway entryways, and roadways with poor drainage.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A slow-moving system will bring heavy showers and thunderstorms to the area Tuesday \u2013 Thursday. Potential flash flooding is possible Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. Commuters taking the MTA, NJ Transit, or driving on city expressways should budget extra travel time, especially during late Tuesday and Wednesday peak hours.<\/p>\n<p>Subway &amp; Rail: Keep an eye out for potential water pooling around station entrances and localized track disruptions.<\/p>\n<p>Roadways: Watch for ponding on highways and low underpasses.
