LeBron James<\/a> is bringing his talents to the City of Brotherly Love after signing with the Sixers<\/a> on a two-year, $8 million contract, making Philly the King\u2019s new home \u2014 kind of. <\/p>\n On Monday, ESPN\u2019s Brian Windhorst said the 22-time NBA All-Star could potentially live part time in New York.<\/p>\n \u201cThis whole thing is outrageous, and I don\u2019t say that critically, I say that just from a fascinating situation,\u201d Windhorst said on ESPN\u2019s Get Up. \u201cThis a one-off moment in the history of the league. We\u2019ve never seen a player ever say the following things, \u2018I don\u2019t care about money, I don\u2019t care about my family.\u2019 <\/p>\n \u201cHe doesn\u2019t even that much apparently care about the city because he doesn\u2019t seem like he\u2019s going to be living in Philadelphia full time, it seems like he\u2019s going to live at least part time in New York. So, this is a \u2014 I don\u2019t even know how to frame it because it\u2019s really truly unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n Brian Windhorst says the whole thing about LeBron James joining the Sixers is outrageous:<\/p>\n \u201cThis a one-off moment in the history of the league we\u2019ve never seen a player ever say the following things, I don\u2019t care about money, I don\u2019t care about my family. He doesn\u2019t even that\u2026 pic.twitter.com\/5NVElFavQP<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 NBA Courtside (@NBA__Courtside) July 27, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania first mentioned James making the commute to Philadelphia from New York via helicopter on The Pat McAfee show on Friday after James\u2019 decision. <\/p>\n \u201cThe last step for him was just making sure his family was on board,\u201d Shams said. \u201cSavannah, his wife, lives in L.A. with his young daughter, Zhuri. Bronny also plays right now with the Lakers in L.A. Bryce, his youngest son, is in Arizona. <\/p>\n \u201cSo, he\u2019s going all the way to the other side of the coast. And we\u2019ll see, will he live in Philly, will he live in Jersey, will he live in New York, will he take a chopper back and forth? We don\u2019t know those answers yet. But, we do know he\u2019s going to the East Coast now and that\u2019s a big lifestyle change for LeBron James at this age of his career. And he made it very clear that it wasn\u2019t going to be about money. And at the end of the day, it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n James wouldn\u2019t be the first Sixers player to make the commute from New York. His former coach J.J. Redick made the commute from his family\u2019s home in Brooklyn to Philly during his time with the Sixers (2017-19). <\/p>\n And NBA Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain primarily lived in New York during the season while regularly traveling back and forth to play with Philly while owning a night club in Harlem \u2014 giving James and Chamberlain, both four-time MVPs, even more in common. <\/p>\n In his book, Wilt: Just like any other 7-foot black millionaire who lives next door, Chamberlain mentioned how the media resented him for living in New York. <\/p>\n \u201cI had missed one practice that week \u2014 just one \u2014 because I had the flu, and the press had played it up big,\u201d Chamberlain wrote. \u201cThey had always resented my living in New York, first with the Warriors and now with the 76ers; they thought it was an insult to Philadelphia (which, I guess, it was \u2014 a richly deserved insult), and when the sportswriters had asked Dolph [Schayes] where I was that day I was sick, he had mishandled the situation, as usual. <\/p>\n \u00bb READ MORE: LeBron James will wear No. 23 with the Sixers: \u2018No words to measure the impact he\u2019ll have\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI had called and told him I was sick, but he just shrugged at the reporters, and said, \u2018Who knows?\u2019 The press had a field day with that \u2014another example of the double standard I\u2019d always been subjected to. Bill Russell missed more practices than I ever dreamed of missing, but no one ever criticized him for it; Tom Gola had lived in New York before I even joined the Warriors, but no one ever accused him of insulting Philadelphia.\u201d<\/p>\n The decision to live in New York has already ruffled some feathers for James.<\/p>\n \u201cThis guy is so disgusted by the city of Philadelphia that he\u2019s commuting in from Manhattan,\u201d said Barstool Sports\u2019 Dave Portnoy. \u201cTo quote Dick Vitale \u2018Are you serious?\u2019 … This is the biggest spit in the face to any city I\u2019ve ever seen. … This is a dark day for Philadelphia and I\u2019m outraged.\u201d<\/p>\n But New York\u2019s Governor Kathy Hochul is all for it, posting \u201cLePied-a-Terre\u201d on social media, referencing the term pied-\u00e0-terre, which is a part-time second home in the city. <\/p>\n Although James could potentially be living in the city of the New York Knicks, the team that bounced the Sixers out of the playoffs, Sixers fans should at least be happy he didn\u2019t choose to live in this house. <\/p>\n The Moorestown<\/a> house formerly belonged to two Philadelphia sports stars: Ben Simmons and Nick Castellanos<\/a>. And we all know how that worked out. <\/p>\n
