{"id":307202,"date":"2026-07-28T00:20:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T00:20:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/307202\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T00:20:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T00:20:13","slug":"nyc-maniac-shot-by-cops-after-allegedly-gunning-down-sister-and-mom-was-never-normal-neighbor-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/307202\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC maniac shot by cops after allegedly gunning down sister and mom was &#8216;never normal,&#8217; neighbor says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Queens man suspected of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/25\/us-news\/cops-shoot-maniac-armed-with-shotgun-outside-nyc-house-then-find-2-dead-inside-sources\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gunning down his sister and mother <\/a>and blowing up their Far Rockaway home was a ticking time bomb \u2014 and long had \u201csomething crazy about him,\u201d neighbors told The Post. <\/p>\n<p>Kegan Thomas, 33, was shot and wounded by NYPD cops during the wild confrontation with New York\u2019s Finest around noon on Saturday after his panicked wife called 911. <\/p>\n<p>Inside the Ocean Crest Boulevard home, police found the bodies of Selena Ponce, 28, and 56-year-old Clemer Ponce \u2014 Thomas\u2019 mom and sister.<\/p>\n<p>Police stormed the Far Rockaway home Saturday and shot a gun-wielding Kegan Thomas, cops said. Kyle Mazza\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was something crazy about him,\u201d neighbor John White said. \u201cI always saw that twink in his eye. He was just never normal. I always avoided conversations with him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I said, \u2018Hi,\u2019 he would give me a thousand-yard stare,\u201d White said.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas, who is hospitalized in critical condition and has not been officially charged, allegedly flew off the handle Saturday, donning a bullet proof vest and clutching a shotgun inside the home, police said.<\/p>\n<p>When the NYPD Emergency Services Unit showed up, an explosion went off inside the house before cops rushed in and repeatedly ordered the crazed gunman to drop his weapon.<\/p>\n<p>Clemer Ponce was allegedly shot and killed by her son, Kegan Thomas, on Saturday. Clemer Ponce \/ Facebook<\/p>\n<p>Selena Ponce was allegedly shot and killed by her brother, Kegan Thomas, on Saturday in Queens. selena.ponce.58<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOfficers issued numerous verbal commands for the subject to put his hands up so he could drop the weapon,\u201d NYPD Assistant Chief Christopher McIntosh told reporters at a briefing Saturday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter failing to comply with repeat commands to put his hands up and still armed [with] the shotgun, officers discharged their weapons and struck the suspect,\u201d McIntosh said. <\/p>\n<p>White said he heard Thomas screaming during the encounter with police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was screaming things like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m gonna kill everybody. I\u2019m gonna kill the block. I\u2019m killing them all.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police said cops issued repeated warnings but had to open fire when Kegan Thomas refused to put down a shotgun.
