Inside a duplex apartment along the High Line in Chelsea, Manhattan, designer Jared Reichert has built a kitchen that exists mostly so he can look at his dishes.<\/p>\n
Jared is the founder of Reichert Collective, a bespoke interior design and event planning firm in New York. He grew up in Cactus Lake, Saskatchewan – a hamlet of three people and a post office – then went to Toronto, landed a Gucci internship by showing up on a day off, and spent nearly eight years running events and visuals for Tom Ford before starting his own firm.<\/p>\n
The kitchen he inherited was a U-shape with an island, a sink, an oven, and cabinetry he describes as bad 1990s, not good 1990s. He tore it out and replaced it with a simple L of open shelving, because seeing his glassware and dinnerware first thing in the morning was non-negotiable. Everything he doesn’t want to look at – fridge, freezer, dishwasher – disappears behind Reform panels.<\/p>\n
What’s on the shelves is the real story. Jared collects Memphis design, sourced almost entirely on eBay. There’s a Kato Kobayashi carnival collection he calls his energy on a plate: sporadic, colorful, silly. There are numbered limited-edition Peter Shire mugs from 2023, the year he took possession of this apartment, in splatter-paint colors that happened to match perfectly. Matching espresso cups for smaller moods. Multicolored glassware from Mano NYC, which doubles as a hosting trick – when every guest has a different colored glass, nobody loses track of their drink. Only one appliance is allowed on the counter: a Pavoni espresso machine that makes him feel like he’s operating a vintage car.<\/p>\n
For the dining area, he skipped the corner and put a six-seat table dead center to divide the open plan naturally. Above it hangs a vintage mirror from Berlin, sourced on 1stDibs, designer unknown, following the curves that run through the entire apartment.<\/p>\n
