This order protects the counselors, social workers, and psychologists that schools across New York rely on to keep kids safe and supported. Children\u2019s mental health should never be subject to political games. My office will keep fighting to make sure every student has access to the care they need\u00a0and that Congress guaranteed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General James and a coalition of 14 other attorneys general <a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/press-release\/2026\/attorney-general-james-sues-trump-administration-trying-slash-youth-mental\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sued the U.S. Department of Education<\/a> earlier this month after the administration attempted to terminate grants\u00a0that help schools hire mental health professionals, despite a permanent injunction\u00a0entered in 2025, which blocked the policy underlying these terminations.
