A street in Brooklyn has been named after the late Wu-Tang Clan co-founder Ol\u2019 Dirty Bastard.<\/p>\n
The corner of Putnam and Franklin Avenues in Brooklyn\u2019s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighbourhood has been re-named \u201cODB Jones Way\u201d following a ceremony on Sunday 26th July, according to Bushwick Daily<\/a>. The new street sign sits alongside a long-standing mural of Ol\u2019 Dirty Bastard \u2014 born Russell Tyrone Jones \u2014 taken from the cover of his 1995 solo debut album, \u2018Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version\u2019.<\/p>\n The renaming was a collaboration between the Estate of Ol\u2019 Dirty Bastard and NYC council member Chi Oss\u00e9, with members of ODB\u2019s family \u2014 including his eldest brother Ramsey Jones and mother Cherry Jones \u2014 attending the unveiling ceremony,\u00a0according to Billboard<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI am very honoured to be here because my grandmother\u2019s house is on this block on Putnam Avenue, right next to where the mural is,\u201d Jones said on Sunday. \u201cI\u2019m so honoured, my mother\u2019s honoured. Thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cODB was brilliant yet hilarious. Above all, he stayed unapologetically true to himself,\u201d Oss\u00e9 wrote on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cThrough Wu-Tang and as a solo artist, he created a sound that redefined what hip-hop could be. His impact is felt here in Bed-Stuy, across New York City, and around the world. We can\u2019t thank the family and estate of Mr. Jones enough.\u201d<\/p>\n Ol\u2019 Dirty Bastard died on 13th November 2004 following an accidental overdose. Born and raised in Brooklyn\u2019s Fort Greene neighbourhood, he remained closely connected to the borough throughout his life and career.<\/p>\n In 2024, a long-awaited<\/a>\u00a0documentary about Ol\u2019 Dirty Bastard,\u00a0A Tale of Two Dirtys<\/a>, directed by Sam and Jason Pollard, premiered on US television channel A&E.<\/p>\n As Wu-Tang Clan wraps up their extended international farewell tour<\/a>, The Final Chamber, Niall Smith revisits the group\u2019s \u201ceternal\u201d 1993 debut album, \u2018Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)\u2019,\u00a0in a recent feature<\/a>.<\/p>\n The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame<\/a> this past April, alongside Sade and Joy Division\/New Order. Wu-Tang co-founder and executive producer of all their albums Oliver \u201cPower\u201d Grant<\/a> passed away this February, aged 52.<\/p>\n
