The Great New York State Fair<\/a> returns to Syracuse from Wednesday, August 26 through Labor Day, September 7, and while daily admission normally runs $8.32 for adults, there\u2019s a whole calendar of special days where the gates swing open for free, no ticket required. <\/p>\n

Thursday, August 27: Student Youth Day, free for anyone 18 and under, plus current and incoming SUNY students with valid ID<\/p>\n

Monday, August 31: Law Enforcement Day and State Parks Day, free for anyone with an Empire Pass, Access Pass, Lifetime Liberty Pass, or Golden Park Program pass<\/p>\n

Tuesday, September 1: Fire, Rescue & EMS Day<\/p>\n

Wednesday, September 2: Women\u2019s Day and Sensory Friendly Day<\/p>\n

Thursday, September 3: Armed Forces Day, free for active duty and veterans with military ID<\/p>\n

On top of all that, kids 12 and under and seniors 65 and older get in free every single day of the fair\u2019s 13-day run, which is one of the more generous standing policies of any state fair in the country!<\/p>\n

Syracuse sits roughly 250 miles from Manhattan, and the drive typically runs about 4.5 to 5 hours up I-87 North, depending on traffic near the city and around Albany. <\/p>\n

If you\u2019d rather skip the driving altogether, Amtrak runs a direct route from Penn Station to Syracuse in around 5.5 hours, while a handful of bus operators, including Trailways and FlixBus, offer one-way tickets for as little as $30 to $50.<\/p>\n

Given the length of the drive, this isn\u2019t quite a spontaneous day trip. <\/p>\n
