PORT RICHMOND, Staten Island (PIX11) \u2014 A 20-year-old man was stabbed and beaten by a group of teens on his way to a Staten Island deli Monday night, according to police and the victim’s father.<\/p>\n
The man was ambushed after the suspects pulled up in car near Heberdon and Post avenues in Port Richmond at around 7:20 p.m., according to the NYPD and the victim’s dad.<\/p>\n
\u00a0More Local News\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n “I think he was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” the dad told PIX11 News.<\/p>\n The victim was visiting his sister and had gone to the deli to get something to eat. On his way, a car full of teenagers pulled up and asked what he was doing there before he was attacked, the father said.<\/p>\n Police said one of the suspects asked, “Where are you from?” Before he could answer, he was stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife, police said. The rest of the crew then repeatedly punched the man, cops said.<\/p>\n The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n The crew then fled in a gray Honda and were last seen heading west on Post Avenue, police said.<\/p>\n It was unclear what prompted the attack, but investigators don’t believe it was a hate crime.<\/p>\n There have been no arrests.<\/p>\n There have been 559 felony assaults on Staten Island this year, according to NYPD data.<\/p>\n Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting\u00a0crimestoppers.nypdonline.org<\/a>, downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
