New York City FC announced today that it has acquired Forward\u00a0Luighi Hanri Sousa Santos\u00a0on loan\u00a0from\u00a0Brazilian side\u00a0SE Palmeiras\u00a0through the 2026 season. The Club has\u00a0an option\u00a0to purchase\u00a0Luighi\u00a0at\u00a0the end of the season.\u00a0The Forward joins the Club as Major League Soccer\u2019s U22 initiative.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Brazilian\u00a0arrives to New York City after making\u00a045\u00a0appearances,\u00a0scoring\u00a0five\u00a0goals, and tallying one assist\u00a0across all-competitions with\u00a0Palmeiras\u00a0over the last three seasons.\u00a0The 20-year-old\u00a0has\u00a0featured across four competitions for Palmeiras\u00a0during the\u00a02026\u00a0season, recording a goal in the second leg of the Club\u2019s Copa do\u00a0Brasil\u00a0Round of\u00a032 win, helping Palmeiras advance to the Round of 16 in the competition.\u00a0The\u00a0Brazilian\u00a0has\u00a0made appearances in the Copa Libertadores, Campeonato Brasileiro S\u00e9rie A, and played a supporting role in Palmeiras\u2019 Campeonato Paulista title-winning campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Before debuting for the First Team in July 2024, the Forward spent three seasons with\u00a0Palmeiras\u00a0U-20 side, making 32 appearances, recording 15 goals, and providing six assists. At the 2025 U-20 Copa Libertadores, the Brazilian tallied two goals and two assists across the tournament,\u00a0guiding\u00a0Palmeiras\u2019 U-20 team to\u00a0a\u00a0Final\u00a0appearance.\u00a0<\/p>\n
