Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees, meanwhile, have had a scout monitoring the Padres, he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>San Diego was among the teams most interested in Kilby during last year\u2019s MLB draft before the Yankees selected him with the No. 39 overall pick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kilby impressed as an 18-year-old in the Florida State League last season but missed most of this year because of a hamstring injury before recently returning to action.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 104 total minor league plate appearances over the last two seasons, Kilby is hitting .318\/.423\/.432 with six extra-base hits (one home run) and 16 stolen bases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The teams\u2019 extensive scouting comes as the Yankees search for upgrades ahead of next week\u2019s trade deadline.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A deal with the Padres would likely center around star closer Mason Miller, who has allowed just four earned runs in 43 2\/3 innings this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40115057\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-2265618249.jpg\" alt=\"Dax Kilby of the New York Yankees poses for a portrait during the New York Yankees Photo Day at George M. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Sherman floated a hypothetical Yankees package that could include Kilby and hard-throwing pitching prospect Carlos Lagrange, along with one pitcher from a group featuring Elmer Rodr\u00edguez, Will Warren and Ryan Weathers and one outfielder from among Jasson Dom\u00ednguez and Spencer Jones for Miller.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2026\/07\/16\/plenty-of-possible-paths-for-padres-at-trade-deadline-heres-why-they-could-buy-sell-or-stand-pat\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Union-Tribune\u2019s Kevin Acee reported<\/a> that the franchise was open to dealing Miller, starter Michael King and relief pitcher Adrian Morejon if they opt to sell.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s still unclear if the trade-happy A.J.
