{"id":308735,"date":"2026-07-29T15:30:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T15:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/308735\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T15:30:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T15:30:08","slug":"teen-on-e-motorbike-killed-in-crash-near-brooklyn-bridge-bike-lane-steps-from-city-hall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/308735\/","title":{"rendered":"Teen on e-motorbike killed in crash near Brooklyn Bridge bike lane, steps from City Hall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-block-key=\"h4ef2\">A 17-year-old riding an electric motorbike was killed in Manhattan Wednesday morning after he collided with a Chevy Tahoe SUV while coming off the Brooklyn Bridge, police said.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"d11tc\">NYPD officials reported the crash happened just before 9 a.m., steps away from City Hall when the motorcycle rider merged into traffic heading north on Centre Street.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"2cqlp\">EMS pronounced the teen dead.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"am35n\">The motorbike at the scene appeared to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/gothamist.com\/news\/city-steps-up-enforcement-on-motorized-two-wheelers-amid-jump-in-deaths\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">model that is not legal<\/a> to operate on city streets because it can reach 30 mph. It did not have a license plate.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"eqfg6\">The fatal crash occurred at Chambers and Centre streets, which was the site of a major street safety project intended to calm traffic and protect cyclists. The intersection is the first one cyclists and drivers reach coming off the Brooklyn Bridge.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"djmld\">Police officials said the 40-year-old driver of the SUV remained at the scene Wednesday morning.
