{"id":309788,"date":"2026-07-30T13:53:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T13:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/309788\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T13:53:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T13:53:07","slug":"live-from-manhattan-bosnias-republika-srpska-and-a-selective-view-of-the-past","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/309788\/","title":{"rendered":"Live From Manhattan: Bosnia\u2019s Republika Srpska and a Selective View of the Past"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In late July, Denis Bojic, the director of the Republika Srpska Memorial Centre, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politika.rs\/sr\/clanak\/773164\/bojic-politika-pamcenja-je-sredstvo-prezivljavanja-srpskog-naroda-i-republike-srpske\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told<\/a> the Serbian daily newspaper Politika: \u201cThe politics of memory is a means of survival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bojic was commenting on the Centre\u2019s recent campaign in New York, in which billboards bearing photographs and accounts testifying to the \u2018suffering\u2019 of the Serb people travelled through Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>Bojic\u2019s words offered perhaps the clearest explanation of the campaign\u2019s political significance. If Republika Srpska, the predominantly Serb-populated entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, were denied the right to tell the world about Serb suffering, he said, it would mean \u201cthe end of the existence of Republika Srpska\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/memorijalni-centar.rs\/en\/svjetska-kampanja-memorijalnog-centra-republike-srpske-predstavljena-u-njujorku-upoznajte-srpsko-stradanje\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Learn About Serbian Suffering<\/a>\u2019 was presented in New York on July 10 and 11 by the Memorial Centre, a public institution established by the Republika Srpska government in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the organisers, the exhibition appeared at a number of prominent locations in the city, including near the headquarters of the United Nations.
