Authorities have now arrested a second person believed to be connected to the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy at Brooklyn Park\u2019s Hartkopf Park on July 5.<\/p>\n

The newest suspect, a 17-year-old male, was taken into custody without incident on July 29 in Peoria, Illinois. The arrest was made by the United States Marshals Service after Brooklyn Park police<\/a> detectives secured a murder warrant from a Hennepin County judge.<\/p>\n

The suspect is currently being held at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center while awaiting extradition back to Minnesota.<\/p>\n

The shooting took place late Sunday night, July 5. Brooklyn Park police responded to reports of gunfire at Hartkopf Park, located at 7300 Florida Ave N., at approximately 10:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they discovered a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite immediate attempts by officers to administer lifesaving measures, the victim died.<\/p>\n

A Brooklyn Park Police K9 unit searched Hartkopf Park on July 6.<\/p>\n

On July 8, Brooklyn Park Police arrested a 17-year-old male<\/a> on probable cause of second-degree murder. Investigators also announced they recovered a gun believed to have been used in the shooting.<\/p>\n

Police have not yet released the identity of the 16-year-old victim or commented on a potential motive for the shooting. The investigation remains active.<\/p>\n
