Two people went to the hospital Thursday morning after a large tree fell on two vehicles in Kingsbridge Heights.<\/p>\n
The tree uprooted along West Kingsbridge Road, crushing a parked car before falling onto another vehicle that was traveling up the street.<\/p>\n
Junior Talvaraz said his brother and his 80-year-old father were inside the moving vehicle when the tree came down.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt fell with incredible force,\u201d Talvaraz said. \u201cI don\u2019t know how they\u2019re still alive.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both men suffered non-life-threatening injuries and went to the hospital, according to Talvaraz.<\/p>\n
FDNY crews were seen cutting the tree into pieces and removing the trunk from the damaged vehicles as cleanup continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard the boom and saw the tree falling down,\u201d one witness said.<\/p>\n
Neighbors said they are now concerned about the large, mature trees that line the street. Some believe recent rainfall may have softened the ground around the tree\u2019s roots, but the cause of the collapse has not been confirmed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s dangerous. It\u2019s scary,\u201d one neighbor said.<\/p>\n
Another worker in the area said he had never seen anything like it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s crazy. I\u2019ve never seen this in my 30 years working up and down this block,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Cleanup remained underway Thursday afternoon.
