A New York City grandmother and mother were charged with murder four months after a 16-year-old boy died from severe malnutrition, according to authorities. <\/p>\n

The New York Police Department on Thursday said Denise Jarvis, 62, and Geneva Jarvis, 36, were arrested in connection with the March death of Adonis Jarvis. <\/p>\n

Police said officers responded to Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx on March 19 after receiving a report of a “suspicious death.” Investigators determined Adonis had been severely malnourished, with the city’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner later ruling his death a homicide. <\/p>\n

A law enforcement source told PEOPLE<\/a> the teenager weighed about 60 pounds at the time of his death.<\/p>\n

Citing the unnamed source, PEOPLE<\/a> reported that Adonis was on the autism spectrum.
