{"id":310383,"date":"2026-07-31T02:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T02:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/310383\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T02:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T02:04:08","slug":"7th-person-dies-in-upper-east-side-legionnaires-outbreak-as-nyc-reports-92-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/310383\/","title":{"rendered":"7th person dies in Upper East Side Legionnaires&#8217; outbreak as NYC reports 92 cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-block-key=\"0trgn\">Another person has died after contracting Legionnaires&#8217; disease, bringing the death toll in the Upper East Side outbreak to seven, according to city officials.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"8pmdv\">At least 92 people have contracted the disease, with five people currently hospitalized, according to the city&#8217;s health department.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"ba09j\">Legionnaires&#8217; disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria. Health officials have said they believe the outbreak was linked to contaminated cooling towers.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"6mugh\">The city&#8217;s investigation identified 56 cooling towers that tested positive for Legionella bacteria.
