{"id":31091,"date":"2025-11-06T19:40:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T19:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/31091\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T19:40:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T19:40:07","slug":"apollo-tells-nyc-workers-to-stay-home-as-it-braces-for-protest-over-marc-rowans-trump-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/31091\/","title":{"rendered":"Apollo tells NYC workers to stay home as it braces for protest over Marc Rowan\u2019s Trump support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Giant buyout firm Apollo Global Management is telling workers to stay home on Friday as it braces for a nasty protest at its New York City headquarters \u2013 and the beef is over CEO Marc Rowan\u2019s support of President Trump\u2019s clampdown on woke politics at university campuses, On the Money has learned.<\/p>\n<p>In recent days, about\u00a01,000 employees at Apollo\u2019s offices at 9 West 57th St. were sent letters advising them to work from home on Friday to avoid being targeted by the demonstration, which has been planned for weeks, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an omen of what\u2019s in store for New York City now that we have a mayor-elect who can\u2019t bring himself to condemn rabble rousers <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/11\/business\/pro-palestinian-radicals-causing-chaos-should-be-a-wake-up-call-to-not-elect-mamdani-for-nyc-mayor\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who in recent weeks have chanted slogans like \u201cfrom the river to the sea\u201d<\/a> and \u201cIsrael does not exist.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Apollo CEO Marc Rowan\u2019s support of President Trump\u2019s clampdown on woke politics at university campuses has sparked an uproar and protests at the provate-equity giant are planned. AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Downtown businesses were already ramping up security measures after a mass shooting at the headquarters of another <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/29\/us-news\/blackstone-executive-and-nypd-officer-among-four-killed-in-midtown-office-shooting-spree\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">private equity shop, Blackstone<\/a>.\u00a0Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani\u2019s association with radical groups like the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/05\/us-news\/nyc-dsa-army-takes-credit-for-zohran-mamdanis-win-declares-it-a-clear-mandate-for-a-democratic-socialist-agenda\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Socialists of America<\/a> and attacks against big business is expected to spark even more protests at the offices of some of the city\u2019s largest employers, business leaders say. <\/p>\n<p>A spokeswoman for Apollo declined to comment. A rep for The Professional Staff For Congress couldn\u2019t be reached for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCharles Gasparino<\/p>\n<p>People close to Apollo say security at the building is bracing for a possible large turnout out of an excess\u00a0of caution; it has significantly ramped up its security and has alerted\u00a0the NYPD. One problem they face is a new city law effective last month that mandates uniformed police to \u201caccommodate\u201d protests as a First Amendment right as long as the event doesn\u2019t turn violent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be honest (Apollo has) no idea if there will be two people, 20 people or 200 people showing up to this thing,\u201d this person said. Other businesses operate out of the same building and have been advising their employees to take similar precautions.<\/p>\n<p>Apollo\u2019s headquarters at 9 West 57th St. Christopher Sadowski<\/p>\n<p>The activist group, called \u201cThe Professional Staff Congress,\u201d has been touting its plans on X to \u201cprotest Marc Rowan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their big gripe: Rowan recently has become an adviser for the Trump administration\u2019s \u201cCompact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education,\u201d a reform effort that hands out \u201cpreferential\u201d federal funds to colleges that move away from left-wing dogma across their curricula and administrations.<\/p>\n<p>Rowan, writing last month in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/10\/10\/opinion\/trump-compact-universities-rowan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New York Times<\/a>, said the university system \u201cis broken\u201d and that \u201ctalented domestic students and scholars have been crowded out of enrollment and employment opportunities by international students.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani\u2019s association with radical groups and attacks against big business is expected to spark even more protests at the offices of some of the city\u2019s largest employers, business leaders say.  ZUMAPRESS.com<\/p>\n<p>The buyout baron likewise ripped the \u201chigh degree of uniformity of thought among faculty members and administrators\u201d across many campuses today, which he said \u201ccan result in a hostile environment for students with different ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rowan\u2019s campaign included <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/10\/28\/business\/marc-rowan-hits-back-at-upenn-leadership-after-antisemitism-on-campus\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">attacks against his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania<\/a>.\u00a0 Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>The compact would address this by \u201cprohibiting discrimination, harassment and intimidation of students; neutrally enforcing \u2018time, place and manner\u2019 guidelines for protest activities,\u201d and force colleges who want aid to refrain \u201cfrom taking institutional positions on political controversies unrelated to a school\u2019s core mission, while encouraging all members of the community to speak out and debate in their personal capacities,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The White House has only recently begun to engage universities on the compact, but top colleges claim the effort stifles academic freedom.
