The Laurie Beechman<\/a> Theatre, located within the West Bank Caf\u00e9,\u00a0and The\u00a0York Theatre have launched\u00a0a Star to Be Project, which gives support and performance opportunities to the next generation of theatre and cabaret artists.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The inaugural recipients, who will all have\u00a0shows at The Beechman, include Casey Borghesi, Charlie High, and Andy Saehan Shin.<\/p>\n

Created in response to the rising costs of producing live performance in New York City, the program removes financial barriers for emerging performers, writers, and creators while ensuring the Beechman can continue its legacy as an incubator
\n for new work. The goal is to bring these talents to a wider audience
\nthrough solo performances, guest spot opportunities, and Beechman-sponsored industry showcases. <\/p>\n

Baritone Shin, born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Maryland, appeared in the tour of Planet K-Pop. His debut solo show, First Night: What I Do for Love, will kick off the series August 27 at 7 PM. Borghesi, who wowed Beechman audiences last fall in The Beat of a Wandering Heart, will be seen in Casey Borghesi Live at The Beechman September 3 at 7 PM. And, High, seen in the national tour of My Fair Lady, will celebrate Judy Garland<\/a>‘s 1961 Carnegie Hall concert October 4 at 7 PM in Charlie Sings Judy.<\/p>\n

The project is named after Laurie Beechman\u2019s Broadway debut, playing A\u00a0Star to\u00a0Be in the original production of Annie<\/a>.\u00a0The first three artists chosen all appeared on stage this past season in readings, showcases, or open mic nights at The Beechman.<\/p>\n
