NEW YORK \u2014 New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli\u2019s office announced that people can check for unclaimed funds at an in-person event or online.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnclaimed funds<\/a>\u201d applies to when people become separated from their money, which may have come from utility deposits, trust funds, old bank accounts, uncashed checks or unused gift cards.<\/p>\n Office staff members will help those who want to claim lost funds through community events throughout the state, providing information and assistance with the search process. However, the closest event to the Rochester area where the Comptroller\u2019s office will be present is the New York State Fair in Syracuse, from Aug. 26 through Sept. 6, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. The office will also be available on Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the fair.<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone loses something, even money. We\u2019re returning more than $2 million a day to New Yorkers, and my office is working to make it easier than ever to reclaim it,\u201d DiNapoli said.<\/p>\n The office returns over $2 million in lost money every day.
