(NewsNation<\/a>) \u2014\u00a0The FAA has announced a permanent no-fly zone over Trump Tower in Manhattan<\/a> that will remain in effect even after owner President Donald Trump leaves office.<\/p>\n

The change<\/a>, effective Oct. 29, comes at the request of the U.S. Secret Service, which also requested a \u201cpermanent fixed flight restriction\u201d area for the president\u2019s Mar-a-Lago estate in West Palm Beach, Florida, for national security purposes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese restrictions are requested due to adverse threat intelligence and the ongoing protective mission of the USSS. Additionally, these would greatly increase the ability to mitigate the persistent risks posed by unauthorized aircraft and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS),\u201d Secret Service Director Sean M. Curran wrote in a letter<\/a> to FAA Administrator Brian Bedford in September.<\/p>\n

A final rule posted by the FAA addresses only the Trump Tower no-fly zone, which will prohibit aircraft within 1,000 feet above ground level and within one nautical mile of the skyscraper. Only the Secret Service would be able to grant exceptions.<\/p>\n

A temporary no-fly zone was already in place for Trump Tower, but it expires Oct. 20.<\/p>\n

The 58-floor Trump Tower, a mixed-use building with condominiums, opened in 1983. The Trump Organization is based at the development, and the president has a penthouse apartment there.<\/p>\n

Facebook forum \u201cBehind the Wings\u201d questioned<\/a> the FAA decision on Trump Tower, saying \u201cit\u2019s locked into the aeronautical charts for good.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo expiration. No review. No sunset when (Trump) leaves office, sells the building, or passes away. For comparison: Clinton, Obama, and Biden never got anything like this over their homes,\u201d curators wrote.<\/p>\n

But one commentator replied that the specs of the no-fly zone are \u201cpractically meaningless.\u201d<\/p>\n
