{"id":311938,"date":"2026-08-02T14:46:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T14:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/311938\/"},"modified":"2026-08-02T14:46:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-02T14:46:07","slug":"nyc-mayor-orders-city-agencies-to-find-budget-savings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/311938\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Mayor Orders City Agencies to Find Budget Savings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mayor asks city workers to help identify savings, streamline processes and improve government operations.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1796\" data-start=\"1349\">New York City <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/mayors-office\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday directed all city agencies to identify 2.5% in budget savings for fiscal years 2027 and 2028, as well as future years, as part of an effort to streamline government operations while preserving essential public services.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1796\" data-start=\"1349\">The savings targets apply to every city agency and are intended to give departments time to evaluate their operations before submitting future budget plans.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"2287\" data-start=\"1798\">\u201cBudget season may have just ended, but our work to build a government that delivers more for New Yorkers is never finished. Every dollar we save by making government work better is a dollar we can put toward services New Yorkers rely on,\u201d Mamdani said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"2287\" data-start=\"1798\">The city is also launching a voluntary Workforce Savings and Efficiency Survey that invites employees to recommend ways to reduce waste, improve efficiency and strengthen service delivery.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"2287\" data-start=\"1798\">Through the new survey, employees can submit ideas for improving government performance, with each proposal reviewed by the agency&#8217;s chief savings officer to help inform future savings initiatives.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"2689\" data-start=\"2289\">The recommendations will help shape the city&#8217;s next round of efficiency initiatives, officials said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mayor asks city workers to help identify savings, streamline processes and improve government operations.
