Expect a month packed with live jazz, artist talks, family activities and community gatherings.<\/p>\n
The Brooklyn Museum<\/a> has announced its August lineup of public programming, featuring free community events, live jazz performances, family activities and a conversation with comedian and Recess Therapy creator Julian Shapiro-Barnum.<\/p>\n The month’s schedule includes Museum on Wheels<\/a> stops in Prospect Heights and East Williamsburg, the return of First Saturday and a series of programs designed to connect visitors with art, music and learning both inside and beyond the museum.<\/p>\n Programming begins Aug. 1\u00a0with Museum on Wheels at Pacific Park in Prospect Heights<\/a>, where visitors can participate in hands-on art-making, games and family activities.<\/p>\n Later that day, the museum will host First Saturday, “Where Brooklyn Meets the Caribbean<\/a>,” featuring music, poetry, artist talks and creative activities celebrating the Caribbean diaspora. On Aug. 6,\u00a0Shapiro-Barnum will discuss his debut book, “How to Grow Up Without Becoming a Grown-Up<\/a>“, during a Brooklyn Talks<\/a> event.<\/p>\n Museum on Wheels returns Aug. 8\u00a0as part of ENVSN Festival<\/a> in East Williamsburg with fashion-inspired art projects, henna and classic neighborhood games.<\/p>\n The month concludes with free Summer Jazz<\/a> performances on Aug. 16\u00a0by the Peter Apfelbaum Hieroglyphics Sextet<\/a> and on Aug. 23\u00a0by the Chembo Corniel Quintet<\/a> in the museum’s first-floor lobby.<\/p>\n By combining community outreach with performances, discussions and interactive activities, the museum aims to make its collections and educational offerings more accessible to people of all ages.<\/p>\n Highlights include partnerships with ENVSN Festival and the Jazz Foundation of America, as well as August’s First Saturday celebration, which is part of Drawing America: US@250, a season of programs exploring democracy, equity and civic participation through art.<\/p>\n Many events are free and open to the public, although some require advance registration or paid admission.
