The New York Mets<\/a> have offloaded a third relief pitcher at the trade deadline, moving right-hander Luke Weaver<\/a> to the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a>, a source told ESPN’s Jorge Castillo on Monday.<\/p>\n

Infield prospect Sammy Stafura is going to New York in the deal, according to multiple reports.<\/p>\n

The addition of Weaver, who is in the first season of a two-year, $22-million deal, signals an unusually aggressive financial push by the typically frugal Pirates, who are looking to end a decade-long playoff drought.<\/p>\n

The Pirates, whose bullpen has faltered repeatedly as they’ve gone 2-7 in their last nine games, are 3 games out of the final spot in a crowded National League wild card race.<\/p>\n

Weaver had a 1.84 ERA with 45 strikeouts and allowed just three home runs in 44 innings for the Mets. He is signed for the 2027 season at $12.5 million.<\/p>\n

Weaver dominated against right-handed hitters, who hit .099 against him. Overall, teams are hitting .162 against him. He’s allowed just one earned run in his last 30 games.<\/p>\n

The trade for Weaver is the second significant acquisition by the Pirates around the deadline. Pittsburgh brought in former All-Star reliever Camilo Doval<\/a> from the New York Yankees<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Earlier Monday, the Mets traded fellow relievers Brooks Raley<\/a> to the Phillies and Huascar Brazoban<\/a> to the White Sox.<\/p>\n
