(And <a href=\"https:\/\/evgrieve.com\/2026\/01\/today-in-gushers-on-1st-avenue-at-14th.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not the first time<\/a> there&#8217;s been a water break here.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>EVG spoke on the scene earlier with Marty Fatooh, Manhattan Borough Commissioner for the NYC Department of Environmental Protection.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were able to halt the leak,&#8221; Fatooh said. &#8220;As of now, we have a shutdown to the city water main in order to address the leak, which is going to affect consumers on First Avenue between East 13th Street and East 14th Street.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fatooh said DEP expects water service to be restored within the next few hours.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the break remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEh2uGkgeAYauqbFNHCvcZXjZrP2SLcA_yK66O5OrJNxNcw-MiZ6378XqeuNITq_I5WvADIr94AoWXLeWDr2cc9reE3bxqZfE1a4Jmv8cUr3SaUNodoIABPVGvQeLXJnXcAjJq7gc8jetznrBy6Zz1hd_0l7ImmPAZHkIbZttDKrjEkPEbzr_InJ8oCa9DM\/s1704\/viruswalk_8-3-26_r_w_080.jpg\" style=\"display: block; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: center;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/viruswalk_8-3-26_r_w_080.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got old pipes. Some of these water mains go back over 100 years,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;re dealing with age-old infrastructure, but we get it fixed.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite the dramatic scene, Fatooh said there weren&#8217;t any major impacts to subway service, though some buses were redirected.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was no water that came in on the tracks,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The L train is running normally.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEiaNiZf8NL50ZV96K5URgVBvgFafwrGjA3wpqLkADM-SCFJqZver2yRH14i9Rht8KX-6KhwkBXs_jgXthXP4ecfZtwpR4xCwex-yzFcjNU0jBa6r_IQHmGpiHwoPEt-SchbjYA-isaoUaZEaNSi-4fROaflztG_d7uqlHsh1L51IAa5ucSSMGpq2HT0m0A\/s2272\/viruswalk_8-3-26_r_w_070.jpg\" style=\"display: block; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: center;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/viruswalk_8-3-26_r_w_070.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Crews will remain on-site to repair the broken water main and the roadway after service is restored.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll update this post as more information becomes available.
