{"id":313288,"date":"2026-08-04T10:26:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T10:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/313288\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T10:26:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T10:26:08","slug":"12-injured-in-astor-place-subway-fire-fdny-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/313288\/","title":{"rendered":"12 injured in Astor Place subway fire, FDNY says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A fire that broke out on Tuesday on a work train traveling through the New York City subway spewed heavy smoke through the Astor Place station in the East Village, suspending nearby subway service and injuring a dozen MTA workers and firefighters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;A lot of heavy smoke, not only at street level but also at the station level,&#8221; FDNY Assistant Chief Tom Currao told reporters during a press conference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Currao said at least seven MTA subway workers were treated for smoke inhalation. Five firefighters were also injured, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As the train caught fire, a northbound train arrived at the station and discharged its passengers.
